Workforce Development and Economic Mobility

Since 2021, the Foundation has focused on funding workforce development programs that support upward economic mobility for residents living in Greater Baltimore. In partnership with the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) and our community partners, we have come to understand that workforce development programs that seem to work best include case management for its participants given the numerous factors impacting one’s ability to develop both the job-specific and “soft” skills required to not only successfully find a job and earn a sustainable living wage but also retain it. We understand that sometimes this case management occurs within their organization but that it also often occurs through strong community partnerships: organizations who can help remove barriers, ranging from legal and mental health to transportation and housing, that participants face.

In 2026, we refined the portfolio with their input and seek to support nonprofits who not only train and place participants in jobs but also help them pursue a degree and/or upskill (e.g., further certifications) and earn promotions through a career trajectory that allows Baltimore residents to build generational wealth.
